Organic Food Industry Expected to Continue Booming

It is indicated in the report that the organic food industry will continue to prosper due to consumer popularity. People all around the world have been developing awareness for natural, fresh, toxic-free food and farming that is beneficial to both humans and the environment.

The industry is currently worth about $63 billion dollars worldwide, but according to the market report, it is expected to skyrocket to $188 billion by 2019.

Organic farming is performed in 162 countries, and in 2011, there were 37.2 million hectares of organic farmland on the Earth, says the report. The market itself branches into two segments – organic food and organic beverages.

According to the report, the organic food market consists of organic fruits and vegetables, organic meat, fish and poultry, organic dairy products, organic frozen foods, and organic processed foods. “Organic fruits & vegetable accounted for more than 36% share of the market and organic meat, fish & poultry products is expected to exhibit the fastest growth among other products,” reads the study’s description.

The organic beverage market is broken off into organic non-dairy beverages, which includes coffee, tea, beer, wine, and other drinks. Organic coffee and tea alone held over 35% share of the global beverages market.

Of course, the organic food and beverage market consists of both small and large manufacturers. The report details that organics is becoming more competitive, though, due to big multinationals entering the global market.

Retailers of all sizes are catching on to the demand for organic food products.

Private labels of retailers are becoming prominent and are the most successful in the organic food & beverages products market,” reads the report. “Companies such as Hain Celestial Group Inc, Starbucks, Amy’s Kitchen Inc, and Organic Valley are some of the major players of this market.”
